She received her doctorate in Pharmacology from the University
of Washington in 1987. She performed postdoctoral research in
the Department of Cell Biology at New York University School of
Medicine, the Institute for Cancer Research at the Fox Chase
Cancer Center, and the Department of Molecular and Cellular
Physiology at Stanford University Medical Center. She has
published her research on the development of epithelial
polarity, cellular adhesion, and the diversity of the voltage
sensitive sodium channel, work that was funded by the NSF, the
NIH and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
