Results of the 2003 IfHI certification examination are being mailed out this week. The average grade on the test was 77.6 and pass/fail was 57.

With their notification letter, candidates who did not pass the exam will receive a make-up essay examination.

Analysis of multiple choice part of the examination:

The multiple-choice part of the examination consisted of 30 questions, plus one extra-credit question. Each question was worth two points towards total examination score (maximum 62 points).

Upon analysis of the performance of each individual question, adjustment was made for three of the questions that had a high "miss-rate": #19 (88% missed), #26 (86% missed) and #12 (75% missed). To allot for this, six points were added to each candidate's score; to anyone who actually did get any of these questions correct, these points are an extra dividend.

The distribution of the results of the multiple choice part of the examination are as follows:

Analysis: Excellent candidate performance for what many considered a challenging part of the test.

Since the pass-fail point for the examination appears to be around a total score of 55-57%, approximately half of the candidates have already passed the examination without the results of their essay answers yet being added to their scores. Twelve candidates appear likely to pass certification 'with distinction' (cum laude).

Good job!

Unlike the multiple choice questions (which can be Scantroned) the two essay questions must be graded by hand. We expect to have these results in 2 weeks. A perfect score on the essay portion of the examination would add the final 40 points to the score, allowing for a maximum of 108 total points.
